So just two days to go before the mad dash to Christmas is over for another year. This year’s been a cracker for British business in more ways than one; political events and ‘post-truth’ may have dominated the headlines, but companies have carried on doing what they do best; powering the UK economy, creating jobs and generating prosperity.
Bosses may have got an early present from the chancellor in his Autumn Statement in the form of corporation tax cuts and extra spending to tackle poor broadband, but there was a lump of coal in the stocking too. Extra borrowing and lower long-term growth forecasts are the unwanted presents the country can’t find the receipt for. Will Philip Hammond be a santa or a scrooge for small businesses? The proof will be in the pudding.
The turkey may have been served early too; Donald Trump’s unexpected victory spells more uncertainty for the foreseeable future at least. I firmly believe that volatility is the breeding ground for opportunity, so for the entrepreneurial among us the coming months could indeed be fruitful.
While a white Christmas may or may not be on the cards, a far safer bet would be on the UK’s Brexit negotiators getting a frosty reception when they arrive in Brussels next year. All that any business owner can ask is that we get the best possible outcome for future trade with the EU, while capitalising on the opportunities for new deals that Brexit can bring.
In the meantime though, it’s business as usual. I’ve taken on the management of Company Check operations and look forward to working with you over the year ahead. We’ll be rolling out lots of new dashboard features in 2017 and filling the Company Check Hub with more useful guides and resources than ever, all of which make the task of staying on top of your due diligence easier than ever.
If you get chance for a festive break this year, I hope it allows you the time to plan ahead for a successful 2017, whatever your line of work and whatever success looks like to you.
From the whole Company Check team, Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
